Thanksgiving–and Acting

Happy Thanksgiving!

This is one of my favorite holidays.  Family, friends, food! It is a time to remember–there is so much to be thankful for. Today at some point in the day–simpy pause.  Look around the room, where ever you are and just give thanks to God for good gifts.  Sometime today–simply pause and remember all the ways you are blessed.

Today also remember that too many people in our world don’t have clean water, or access to food or medical care or shelter.  Remember today, that somepeople in our neighborhood don’t have family, friends, food. This day, for them will be just another day—and a day with little hope or joy.

So, in the midst of our thanksgiving, let’s also determine anew that by this time next year, each one of us will have done more to care for those who don’t get to celebrate Thanksgiving today.

Its the way of Jesus.

The creed attempts to express the essentials of the Christian faith within the Masai culture. Jaroslav Pelikan, a [...]

The Value of the Local Congregation

It is not easy to pastor a church. Eugene Peterson describes the church as mysterious and messy. The mystery of the church is often overshadowed by the messiness of the church that we encounter on a regular basis. So Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s statement in Life Together always shocks me and humbles me: Pastors should not complain about [...]
